Training course “Introduction to Applications of AI on Power Systems”
Event Date:
17 April 2026
Event Time:
9h00
Event Location:
Barcelona, School of Industrial Engineering of Barcelona (ETSEIB) - UPC, Barcelona, 08028, Spain
Event Description
Building upon the success of the previous courses on power system stability and power system oscillations, CRESYM expands its offering with a course on AI applications on power systems. The same spirit is followed: a practical workshop, with deep participation of the attendees, and opportunities to raise questions. A single day is provided during cresROADS with the plan to expand it to a 2-day training in subsequent sessions.
| Training course title | INTRODUCTION TO APPLICATIONS OF AI ON POWER SYSTEMS |
| Instructor(s) | Dr. Jochen L. Cremer
Associate Professor at Delft University of Technology Short bio: Dr. Jochen Cremer works as an Associate Professor at Delft University of Technology and Principal Scientist at the Austrian Institute of Technology. He directs the TU Delft AI Energy Lab and has built research teams dedicated to grid operation, planning, and resilience, integrating AI and quantum computing methods. He has authored over 40 peer-reviewed journal articles on machine learning applications in power grids, system stability, and dynamic security. Dr. Elissaios Sarmas Senior Research Associate at National Technical University of Athens Short Bio: Dr. Sarmas is a research associate at the School of Electrical & Computer Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens working on AI, data science, and optimization, with a focus on energy flexibility and efficiency in microgrids. Dr. Sarmas has co-authored the book “Multicriteria Portfolio Construction with Python” and has published over 20 papers on machine learning and AI applications in energy and decision support systems. |

| Program / description | This course addresses the challenges and opportunities of applying AI to power system reliability amid renewable energy integration and electrification. It covers neural networks (including convolutional and graph-based), techniques to handle data imbalances and noise, and applications for distribution and transmission systems. Key topics include dynamic stability assessment, state estimation, and AI’s trustworthiness, reliability, and generalization for future-ready systems. The course equips researchers and engineers with insights and tools to leverage AI effectively in addressing power system challenges. |
| Logistics | Slides for notes, refreshments, and snacks will be provided.
Travel, meal & accommodation expenses will not be included, but the attendees are invited to attend the dinner offered by CRESYM on the evening of 16th April. All details about the venue and advice for accommodation will be provided prior to the scheduled date. |
| Price | 300 €/attendee (per day of training) for CRESYM members
